Loretta R. 'Rose' Brust - 02/09/2010

Loretta R. “Rose” Brust, 91, of Mason City, formerly of La Porte City, died February 9, 2010, at Keystone Cedars Assisted Living in Cedar Rapids, her home for the last 4˝ years. She was born October 25, 1918, in Waterloo; the daughter of Fred and Gertrude Wilcox Klinger. She married Carl Brust on June 2, 1940, in Waterloo; he preceded her in death in November of 2003.



She was a very social person, she loved people. As a young woman, she loved to dance and met her husband-to-be, Carl, at the Electric Park Ballroom in Waterloo. They were in love and married 63 years.



She loved traveling throughout the U.S., enjoyed playing cards, crafting ceramics and spending time with her two granddaughters. She had worked 28 years for the Mason City Public Schools as a kitchen manager, retiring in 1981.



Rose is survived by one son, Jim Brust of Marion; two granddaughters, Lindsay Brust of Boulder, CO and Emily Brust of Silverthorne, CO; two brothers-in-law, Dr. Richard (Margaret) Brust of Monmouth, OR, Al Brustkern of Cedar Rapids and two nephews.



Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; one daughter in infancy; one granddaughter, Megan Brust and one sister, Lois Brustkern.



Services were held February 13, 2010, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with burial in the West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City.



In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given in Loretta’s name to Iowa Hospice at 800 1st Ave N.E., Cedar Rapids, Iowa or to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
