Rolland T. Ohrt - 06/07/2010

Rolland T. Ohrt, age 86, of Waterloo and formerly of La Porte City, Iowa, died June 7, 2010, at his home.

Rolland was born October 3, 1923, in La Porte City, the son of Theodore R. and Freeda L. (Lane) Ohrt. He was united in marriage with Frances Kemp on May 8, 1943 in Dubuque.

He worked for the Iowa Highway Commission for 30 years, retiring in 1974. Rolland was a World War II Navy Veteran. Rolland enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, camping and gardening. He was a member of the Becker-Chapman American Legion Post in Waterloo, Evansdale AMVETS Post and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife, Frances of Waterloo; three daughters, Claudia (Gary) Ohrt of Panama City, FL, Linda (Jim) Larson of Sedalia, MO and Karen (Duane) Morrissey of Waterloo; a son, Randy (Patricia) Ohrt of Fairbank, IA; two daughters-in-law, Evie and Mary Ohrt, both of Waterloo; 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; two sisters, Maxine (Arvey) Hydenrick of Deer, AR and Judy (Paul) Vega of Long Beach, CA; and two brothers, Gerald Ohrt of Oelwein and John (Mary) Davis of Mt. Vernon, MO.

Rolland was preceded in death by two loving sons, Ron and Del Ohrt; his parents; three sisters, Madline Black, Ada Skolnick and an infant sister and three brothers, Alvin and Merlin Ohrt and an infant brother.

Funeral Services were held June 9, 2010, at the Kearns, Huisman-Schumacher Chapel in Waterloo with burial in Engeldow Cemetery, rural Mt. Auburn with full military honors accorded by La Porte City San Diego American Legion Post #207 and V.F.W. Normandy Post #3983.
