Timson Honored for 50 Years of Service to the Banking Industry

By TPR News Desk, 10/12/2009

The Iowa Bankers Association (IBA) recognized Norm Timson, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cedar Valley Bank and Trust, La Porte City and Vinton, Iowa, for more than 50 years of service to the banking industry. The IBA “50 Year Banker” luncheon and presentation was part of the 123rd IBA Convention held in Des Moines on September 22, 2009.  Fourteen bankers were recognized and inducted as a “50 Year Banker” at this year’s program.

“It is Iowa’s good fortune and the good fortune of La Porte City and Vinton to have Norm Timson working for customers every day for more than a half century,” said IBA President & CEO John Sorensen.  “Bankers play a vital role in their community.”  Norm has provided valuable and distinguished service to his customers, his community and to the financial services industry.

Norm retired from National Bank of Waterloo and was asked to join the Cedar Valley Bank team soon after.  He has worked on many fund drives:  March of Dimes, Heart Fund Sunday, Cancer and United Way.

Norm has served in the following positions:

  • 9 years as Director-Treasurer of the Salvation Army
  • 6 years as Director-Treasurer and President of the Waterloo Boys and Girls Club
  • 6 years as Director-Treasurer of the Waterloo Masonic Temple Foundation
  • 8 years as Director-Treasurer of the Waterloo Humane Society
  • 2 years as Student Director for Iowa School of Banking

In its 123-year history, the IBA has dedicated itself to serving Iowa banks and their employees.  At its formation, the primary purpose of the organization was to provide representation of Iowa banks before the legislature and to provide an organization where individual bankers could gather and exchange ideas on the business of banking.  Never straying from the original purpose, the IBA continues to look for ways to serve bankers through learning opportunities, legislative and regulatory representation, industry communications, forums for peer communication, and enhancement of the image of banking.
