In the November 4th edition of the Progress Review, an article entitled, “A Sweet Deal for LPC Seniors,” told how a group of local residents had spent nearly a year visiting various senior living facilities in surrounding communities (Cedar Falls, Reinbeck, Grundy Center, Conrad, and Vinton) trying to determine if a similar facility should or could be built in LaPorte City. That group soon determined that nothing could be done until a feasibility study was completed. The city council agreed to pay for the cost to have the feasibility conducted and the results of that study confirmed that there was a need to have a senior living facility built in LaPorte City.

Since the study group had been most impressed with the Western Home facilities in Cedar Falls, they began collaborating with Kris Hansen, Vice President of the Western Home Communities Administrative Staff and Mardy Holst of AHTS Architects to prepare a design for a senior living facility that would meet the needs of LaPorte City and the immediate surrounding area, as identified in the feasibility study. The outcome of that collaboration was a design for a 28-unit facility under one roof. Since the city council has graciously agreed to provide property in the Sweet Addition for building this senior housing project, the original study committee has decided the name for the facility should be Sweet Meadows.

Anyone interested in finding out more about Sweet Meadows is invited to come to City Hall from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 12th as part of the LPC Chambers 2nd Annual Chocolate Walk. The architect’s drawings of the outside view of Sweet Meadows will be available as well as the complete floor plan for the 28-unit facility under one roof including the 34 enclosed parking spaces/storage units, common areas, etc. There will also be floor plans available for the three different sized living units that are available for purchase by those who would like to consider living in this facility.
