Middle School Band Members Point the Way to Achievement Honors

Throughout the school year, Union Middle School Band students are awarded with outstanding achievement points, which are earned for doing those things that help students improve and be successful in playing their instruments and contributing to the success of the whole program. Students earn points in a variety of ways, including passing lesson book songs and band concert literature, demonstrating a positive attitude and effort in band rehearsals and achieving high grades and percentages at the end of each trimester. They can also earn points performing in concerts and other venues, such as honor band, jazz band and solo contests. Points are also earned by taking private lessons with a professional on their chosen instrument, memorizing scales, coming to band lessons without being called and taking summer lessons. Overall, they need to be good role models of the ideal band student.

The award is not easy to achieve. It is based more on effort and achieving one’s highest potential than it is on sheer talent. There are three levels students can achieve depending on the number of points they earned - Gold, Silver and Bronze.

6th Grade Bronze Award Winners: Jayson Aschenbrenner, Callie Brandanger, Tanner Cummings, Laryn Ewoldt, Alyssa Frost, Mitchell Hanson, Charles Kronschnabel, Aubri Mossman, Sam Wieben, and Dana Wigg

6th Grade Silver Award Winners: Carter Hennessy, Kassie Hennings, Weston Krug, Nicole Lowe, Wyatt Samuelson, Elizabeth Wilson

6th Grade Gold Award Winners: Katie Freeland, Jadin Hennings, Trevor Krug, and Cole Moody

7th Grade Silver Award Winners: Noah Dobson, Brandon Hill, Caleb Larison, Jess Larison, Grant Mullen, and Torie Ryan

7th Grade Gold Award Winners: Dobson Douglass, Nathan Dvorak, Nathan Ferguson, Trey Hookham, Dakota Hopper, Austin Kiler, Gabe Klein, Kaitlin Moore, Abby Ollendieck, Morgan Phillips, Amber Rottinghaus, Dani Wandschneider, and Maria Wrage

8th Grade Bronze Award Winners: Alex Bear, Bailey Heerkes, Rachel Hicks, Katie Hilmer, Kuennen Murphy, and Olivia Snyder

8th Grade Silver Award Winners: Jacob Clark, Riley McDowell, and Ben Turner
