To the Editor:
As the dust settles on yet another busy Holiday season, the Northeast Iowa Food Bank is once again reminded of the great generosity shown by communities throughout Northeast Iowa. On behalf of the staff, board and those we serve, I would like to say thank you.
The increase in services the Food Bank is providing has been our primary concern over the past few months. Despite the increase and because of your support, the Food Bank has continued to maintain service. The community responded to this rise in many ways. During the months of November and December, volunteers put in almost 6,300 hours of work in support of the Northeast Iowa Food Bank.
The Food Bank also found support from the community through food drives. Nearly 45,000 pounds of food was donated to our organization through food drives in November and December. This is almost double the poundage from prior years.
Finally, the funding support that churches, businesses, organizations and individuals have given to us is truly appreciated. Donors truly opened their hearts this Holiday season and for this we are grateful.
Community support enables us to provide food assistance and nutrition education to thousands of people through our Member Agency Distribution program, the Cedar Valley Food Pantry, Operation Family Pack, Kids Cafe and the Elderly Nutrition program.
We are very grateful for all of the partnerships that we have throughout the area we serve.
Sincerely,
Barbara Prather
Executive Director, Northeast Iowa Food Bank
