The Super Bowl may be over, but there is still a lot going on the rest of the week. On Valentine’s Day members of the Women’s Club are hosting a “hearty” breakfast and bake sale (sorry, but some puns are just too fitting, they can’t be suppressed). It will be at the Veterans Memorial Hall from 8 a.m. till noon.

The Chamber of Commerce has a busy week too. They will welcome Jamie Hendershot, owner of The Olde Kountry Kottage with a ribbon cutting ceremony at her new location on Main Street tomorrow at 11:30. Chamber members will also have an exhibit at the Home Show at the Sullivan Convention Center in Waterloo the 12th thru the 14th.

The annual transformation is currently underway at the Museum too. The amount of mind and muscle power that go into that operation is absolutely mind boggling! The main floor has been stripped to the bare walls and a new story is unfolding. Every year as this process commences the volunteers come up with the same “If only…”.  I am passing it on to young and old alike: if you will just put names, dates and locations on the backs of every photo in your home, you will make the cataloging of local history a great deal more meaningful.

Monday the 15th is President’s Day. Remember when two days were set aside for the observance of the birthdays of Washington and Lincoln? A lot of meaning has been lost in the generic version which is pretty much ignored except as an advertising tool. Tuesday is the last day of Mardi Gras and the next day is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, the prelude to Easter. Between the Hearts of Valentines Day and the Lilies of Easter, take time to enjoy the Winter Olympics which open February 12. That leaves you just enough time to start planning your garden as you think spring.
