News » School » LPC Elementary Students Advance to District Spelling Bee

The Waterloo Chapter of the Knights of Columbus held their annual regional spelling bee for students in grades 4-8 on Saturday, February 6. The following students participated from La Porte City Elementary after placing in the top three for their grade level: 5th grade - Jackie Barz, Elle DeSalva, and Wes Powell; 4th grade - Mikayla Allen, Wesley Hanson, and Brittany Kalvig.

The 5th graders dominated their competition, finishing first, second, and third. Elle DeSalva placed first, Jackie Barz placed second, and Wes Powell came in third. Elle and Jackie will compete in the District competition in Oelwein on February 21. Wes is an alternate for that competition. In fourth grade, Mikayla Allen placed third, Brittany Kalvig placed fourth, and Wesley Hanson came in 5th. Mikayla is the alternate for the District competition in Oelwein.
