Ridihalgh, Fuelling, Snitker, Weber, & Co. CPA’s recently released an audit on the City of La Porte City, Iowa.

The City’s receipts totaled $2,384,393 for the year ended June 30, 2009, a 4 percent decrease from 2008. Receipts included $904,399 is property taxes, $540,081 for charges for services, $574,916 from operating grants, contributions, and restricted interest, $279,751 from local option sales tax, $54,821 from unrestricted investment earnings, and $30,425 from other general receipts.

Disbursements for the year totaled $2,224,875, a 32% decrease from 2008, and included $459,988 for Public Works, $449,169 for Public Safety, and $441,755 for Debt Service.

The report included recommendations on improving segregation of duties, instituting a vehicle usage policy, obtaining an up-to-date delinquent accounts listing from La Porte City Utilities, and including the separately maintained bank account held by the police department in the City’s books.

A copy of the audit report is available for review in the office of the Auditor of the State and the City Clerk’s office.
